Summary[]

"When a youth counselor is found murdered, Lucifer and Chloe venture into the world of high-end reform programs to find the killer. Meanwhile, Amenadiel adjusts his lifestyle in an attempt to help Lucifer, and Chloe questions Lt. Pierce's feelings towards her."[2]

Plot[]

Lucifer is in bed with a woman, having a post coital drink, when he asks her what her darkest desire is, “To have sex in the ball pit of a Chucky Cheese.” The thought of getting caught turns her on. Lucifer isn't one for a “child laden cesspool,” but he's willing to practice with her. Her husband then arrives downstairs...Lucifer remains completely cool, puts on her robe and walks downstairs to face the angry spouse. When the startled husband offers violence, Lucifer asks if that is what he truly desires. The man slumps, no, he admits he is a cliché, married the yoga instructor in a runaway case of lust, but “In all honesty, I just want to chill with my ex, Marsha. She engaged my mind.” Lucifer recognizes the man as a judge and decides making a deal would help them both, he offers to keep the new bride satisfied while his honor reconnects with Marsha.

Chloe, meanwhile goes to speak to the new Lieutenant. She suggests she take on some additional responsibility in the department, and asks for the union rep position. He refuses to consider it, putting her back up, but he won't explain himself, and says as long as she is there she can have the new case that just dropped.

Lucifer arrives home to find Amenadiel waiting. His brother tells him he has figured out that Lucifer is his task. He can't say how, but he has decided, “am I supposed to help you, teach you... maybe ... I'm supposed to learn from you.” Lucifer is fine with that and gives him access to all things Lucifer, his wardrobe, his social media, and tells him “Go. Release your inner Devil....Get laid. Play the piano. Punish evil. Just, whenever you're faced with a choice, ask yourself the question: WWLD - What Would Lucifer Do?”

Lucifer catches up with Chloe at the crime scene; a young woman, Emily Goddard, is pulled from a water trough. She was a counselor at the facility, Firehawk Ranch, a “Transformational Center... a high-end reform program for juvenile drug offenders and addicts.” Lucifer is skeptical as to such a program's efficacy, and says as much to the founder, Jerry Blackcrow, saying the killer didn't come in from outside, but was already there. He then pointed randomly to a couple of the kids, including one with “shifty eyes” and “The ginger, she's got that 'I like to watch the life drain out of people' look.”

Blackcrow insists the Ranch is a ”place of transformation” and holds himself up as an example – an ex-con made good. Lucifer insists it's a scam, that people can't be changed, ignoring his own changes. The forensics team then find a tool belt belonging resident, Tyson Chase, with the presumed murder weapon missing from it. Chase, too is missing.

Back at the precinct, Pierce asks for a progress report and expresses disappointment that Chloe isn't further along – no one even in custody? She grits her teeth and asks why Pierce is such a dick to her, Dan says he's a dick to everyone. She says, “I seem to be getting extra helpings of his dickishness.” Lucifer assures her they can find Tyson, because he will revert to type, and go back to his old crimes. He can call on a judge who owes him a favor to get the juvenile record unsealed, he'll handle it, and Chloe will not be seen to be cutting corners. Lucifer then waits for Tyson to show, “Your record said you liked to steal cars... Vintage muscle cars, to be precise, and you've been arrested here twice.” Lucifer then takes him for a terrifying ride in the stolen car, and screeches to a halt on the edge of a canyon. Tyson promises to tell him anything, but he's not the killer, he claims he was in love with the victim and wanted her to run away with him. He did say, however, that Emily was concerned about expelling another resident. Chloe believes him even if Lucifer doesn't. Pierce sees that final confrontation between Lucifer and Tyson and comments that Lucifer probably just scared the kid straight, “Well done, Lucifer. Way to be a good influence.” Lucifer is affronted by that, and sets out to be a bad influence.

The next morning he gathers the Firehawk kids around and begins lessons on drug use, growth, and distribution. One girl, Carly Glantz, had already started growing her own crop, and Lucifer had them all start processing. When Chloe finds them, he is overseeing operations from the back of a horse. She tells Lucifer Carly is the resident the victim was going to expel. When Lucifer summons her, however, she lawyers up. When Carly's alibi proves water tight, she admits to having seen Tyson digging during the night of the murder. Forensics excavates the area, and soon unearth the murder weapon. Chloe suggests that if Lucifer is right, and the bad kid remains bad, then how did the worst resident, Carly, earn the coveted privilege of computer time – her alibi. Chloe wants to go talk to Jerry, but Lucifer is called away – his deal with the judge is still in effect and he has a chore to perform.

Instead, Pierce joins Chloe on the trip out to Firehawk. Chloe assumes he has tagged along because he doesn't trust her, but he corrects her; she is one of his best detectives, and he wants to see her in action. He refused the union rep job for her because he considers it a job for has-beens. Jerry Blackcrow emerges armed with a shotgun. Pierce yells a warning, and manages to push Chloe out of the way, taking the blast himself. On the ground, Chloe fires blindly, but with both officers at a disadvantage, Jerry escapes. Chloe checks Pierce, and calls it in, “Officer down.” Everyone descends on the scene, and Pierce is taken to the hospital. Lucifer arrives and wants “a word” with Blackcrow, Dan tells him to get in line, but that Chloe is okay, Luckily Pierce was there. Lucifer only cares that he wasn't.

Lucifer realizes that Blackcrow must have cash, and with the banks closed and an APB out for him, a stash, if he is to flee, and Lucifer's prize pupil told him of one. Of course, her partner would know of it too. He confronts Jerry, just as the man fishes up a duffel full of cash. He admits to killing Emily, and Chloe was in his way. Furious, Lucifer attacks him, “Your punishment will be far worse than jail.” Amenadiel arrives to stop the beating, telling Lucifer, “You're not evil. You're the Devil. You punish evil.”

Chloe, meanwhile, visits Pierce in the hospital. She thanks him for saving her and he returns the sentiment. He tells her, “I can see why Lucifer’s so affected by you; you’re special, Chloe.” Dan then arrives, and Pierce tells him he is the new union rep, and Dan happily thanks him.

Lucifer and Amenadiel return to the penthouse in an odd mood, Lucifer says, “I haven't changed. Wings, no wings, unable to show my true face... it doesn't matter. I'm exactly who I always was. A punisher.” Amenadiel suggest that it wasn't Jerry he was trying to punish, but himself for not being there for Chloe, and if that is true he has truly changed. He then tells Lucifer that he is his test, that now that Lucifer is evolving, he is there for him.

Lucifer seems detached, and begins speaking about a masochistic soul he had tortured long ago until one day, he was not there to administer the daily punishment, and when he returned the soul begged not to be forgotten again, “It was then that I realized he was so full of self-loathing, void of any self-respect, that no matter the depth of my cruelty, whatever minuscule attention I paid gave meaning to his pointless existence.” When Amenadiel asked why tell him this, Lucifer coldly says it reminded him of his brother. Amenadiel refuses the bait, “I know what you're doing. And you can kill the messenger if you must, but just know that I am here for you.” As Amaneadiel leaves, a frustrated and angry Lucifer breaks a mirror, then stares at his fractured reflection.
