Meanwhile, Maze and Amenadiel follow Charlotte around, as she comes up with a plan to upset Lucifer enough to want to leave earth and go back to Heaven."[1]

Plot[]

The episode begins with Lucifer and Amenadiel touring the city of Los Angeles, "now that we're making Los Angeles our home, the city of Angels can finally earn its name." Amenadiel, however, walks away halfway through the tour. In a session with Linda, Lucifer expresses his concerns about Amenadiel refusing to accept the city as he has. Linda replies that people need time to change, and Lucifer reveals that LA feels like home for him, especially when compared to Heaven and Hell. Linda asks whether Lucifer moved to LA to run away from something or to look for something, which one is something he has to work out.

The next crime scene takes Lucifer and Chloe to the murder of Dean Cooper, a well hated Los Angeles real estate tycoon, the man with whom Lucifer dealt with to lease Lux. Eric Cooper, Dean Cooper's son, has assumed all of Cooper's holdings and assets, including Lux, and with unseemly haste tells Lucifer that his lease is void and he will be evicted, “Your father was just brutally murdered, and here you scant hours after you were notified, divvying up the spoils. I don't know whether to be horrified or impressed.” Maze tries to convince Lucifer that Cooper's death is his mother's doing, that she wants to separate him from his club since he revealed his attachment to Lux. Maze goes to Amenadiel to tell him of her suspicions when Lucifer's mum arrives. Maze confronts her about trying to get Lucifer evicted, she denies the charge. Mum tells Amenadiel that she was not involved, but might be able to use the situation to their advantage. Amenadiel tells her that Lucifer loves Lux, and no one will be able to make him give it up so long as it stands. Cooper appears to have been killed by a shard of glass from a broken wine glass, Ella manages to reconstruct the glass, and runs it for prints. Lucifer calls Chloe to tell her Eric Cooper must be guilty, “Little shark liquidated his father so he could liquidate his assets. ...because he's trying to evict me from Lux and sell off the building.” Chloe is about to dismiss the charge due to lack of evidence, Ella finds Eric's print on the glass. As Chloe and Lucifer head off to confront Eric, Chloe makes Lucifer promise not tear his arms off or hang him from a window, Lucifer promises that "the man's feet shall remain firmly on the ground" as if on cue, Eric Cooper plunges to the ground from a seventh floor balcony.

The Coopers, it turns out, were almost bankrupt, and Eric told his wife, “Dad ran the business into the ground. We were buried in debt. I thought making emergency sales could save us, but...There's nothing left. I'm sorry, I... I couldn't live with disappointing you.” He then told Lucifer the sale had been made, and the whole block Lux was located now belonged to Eleanor Bloom.

Lucifer and Chloe find it strange that a deal was closed mere hours after the death of Dean Cooper, and go to meet Bloom. She reveals that her rivalry with Dean Cooper has led to what Lucifer calls a multi-million dollar prank war, and that she tells him she desires everything that Dean Cooper owned, “I want everything Dean Cooper has... Everything. All I want is what was his. And then to destroy it.” Chloe suggests that interfering with a murder investigation can tie any deal she made for a long time, so Bloom admits that her accountants did find some shady numbers when going through their books. Someone was hiding money.

Meanwhile, Charlotte uncovers a person in custody with skills in explosives. Dan is in interrogation with him when Charlotte arrives and says she’s his new lawyer. What she really wants to know of her new client is whether or not he knows how to bring down a building, “I need you to destroy a nightclub for me.”

Lucifer arrives at Lux as movers are trying to pack up his piano, furious, he growls, “Hands off my piano! You think you can come in here and take apart my life without any trouble? You gentlemen have no idea who you're dealing with, do you? Well, let me show you.” Lux is then seen full of people – including the movers - in full party mode. When Charlotte arrives, she asks Amenadiel what’s going on, “Oh, you know Lucifer, Mom, he wasn't gonna let this place go without a fight. Or a drink. This is what humans call a sit-in." She is disappointed there are so many people about as her client is a coward and she doubts she can convince him to kill so many bringing down the building with C4.

Charlotte then decides to see if she can work things to her advantage and approaches Lucifer, telling him she disagrees with him but is willing to support him, a pleased and surprised Lucifer marvels that she is actually being a good mum, then introduces her to Linda, “Mum, this is my therapist, Dr. Linda. Doctor, this is my mum in a disturbingly hot body.” He tells mum that Linda has been let in on the celestial secret, then leaves them together. Mum hints she wants to know what Lucifer has told her, but Linda flat out states she will not be telling mum anything.

Chloe continues the investigation, interviewing a private detective, Simon Halbrooks, who had been receiving off the books payments from Dean Cooper. He explains his job was to determine is people in Cooper's organization were loyal, the man wanted to know who he could trust, “Think of me as a professional tempter.” But he refused to say who he was hired to tempt.

Dan interrupts and tells Chloe they have reports of an illegal party at Lux. When the police then show up at Lux, Lucifer is stunned when Chloe is with them. She quietly tells the uniforms she will handle it, Lucifer looks crushes until she says, “Lucifer, what the hell were you thinking? Turn the music back on, this place is dead.” He laughs and the party resumes. He asks if she's on his side now, and she tells him she always has been. Delighted, he takes her on to the dance floor telling her she is the guest of honor now. A watching mum acknowledges he really does love the place, Linda nods knowingly, “Yeah. This place.” The goddess compliments Linda on her insight.

Many hours later, everyone else has fallen asleep or passed out, and Chloe works on the investigation, she says that there has to be something that’s missing. Lucifer is still working on saving Lux, “This is about more than me. I mean, do you know the history of sin in this place? It was an institution decades before I ran it. That crack in that mirror there, that crack is still there from when Ava Gardner threw a scotch glass at Sinatra's head. Underneath here there's prohibition tunnels everywhere. Howard Hughes used to use them to sneak his mistresses away from his other mistresses....” Chloe has an epiphany and believes she knows who Dean Cooper was investigating. She tells Lucifer she needs his help, and he’s happy to oblige after she points out that the police won’t be there for at least another day and Bloom’s crew are all passed out on the floor.

Lucifer interrupts Simon as he’s working a woman to see if she’d cheat on her fiance. Chloe had realized Dean hired Simon to find out if Christi was going to remain faithful to his son. When she did, Dean still wanted to make it look like Christi was cheating, so had Simon fake some evidence. Lucifer in incensed, “The poor girl was just trying to find a place to belong. And you, you vile insect, took that away from her,” and calls s Simon a homewrecker. Chloe tells him the punishment will have to be that he will be out of business when what he's done gets out.

Dan, meanwhile, is surprised that Charlotte has asked him out, not realizing that she is just using him for information about Chloe. She says she has some time, she kisses him. Maze and Amenadiel were watching this entire exchange. Amenadiel doesn’t want to think about what is happening, but when she leads Dan away, he cringes. Maze thinks it’s all very funny. While Dan sleeps later, Charlotte calls her bomb maker and asks for a much smaller charge, and she’s going to do the job herself.

Chloe and Lucifer return to Eric Cooper’s house and ask if Christi was with him when his father was killed. He says she was out scouting venues for the wedding. Christi enters and wants to know why the police are there after Eric had been cleared. Chloe mentions the evidence, and Eric jumps in to say that he killed his father. But then Christi says she did. Chloe points out that if they confess they could both go to prison, and Lucifer is confused, saying that the one who didn't do it would lose everything. They respond, “Whatever we face, we face together.”

Back at Lux, the party goers are gone and Lucifer sits at his piano in an empty club when Chloe enters. He tells her he sent everyone home, that he’s done fighting, he can always rebuild somewhere else. Chloe smiles “Well, that makes this sort of anticlimactic, but Lux has been named a Heritage Site by Los Angeles County.... I had a friend in the city council push it through, and I used your, little history lesson as inspiration. Lux is protected now. It can't be demolished for development.” Lucifer is so touched that he doesn’t know what to say, so he asks her to dinner to thank her.

In his next session, Lucifer talks to Dr. Martin about the astonishing gesture Chloe had made. Linda thinks that he came to LA looking for something, and that perhaps he has found it. But “You could show her your true face, but you don't. Why is that? Do you think it's because you might be afraid of how she might react? Because you care that much about what she thinks of you?” The suggestion troubles Lucifer so much that he spends the evening in the penthouse drinking, and deliberately stands Chloe up.

Charlotte however, is at the restaurant, holding the detonator for the bomb under Chloe’s car.

Trivia[]

  • The episode's title is said by Lucifer.
  • The events in Homewrecker takes place between January 16th 2017-January 18th 2017.
  • In the scene where Maze and Amenadiel are spying on Goddess's date with Dan, Maze is wearing a white "normal consciousness will be resumed" t-shirt, similar to the one her comic counterpart wears.
  • In the scene where Chloe and Lucifer go to see Eric Cooper before he falls from the building, there are several references to previous episodes.
    • When Chloe says that she couldn't let Lucifer "tear his arms and legs off", it is a reference to A Priest Walks Into A Bar, when Lucifer wanted to tear Eric "The Spider" Doyle's legs off after he kills Frank Lawrence.
    • When Chloe says that she couldn't let Lucifer "hang him from a window", it might be a reference to Pilot, when Lucifer threatens 2 Vile's life by hanging him from a balcony.
  • Lucifer mentions his Father "isn't on my Christmas card list".
  • Eric's actions after his father's death were, in fact, illegal, and Lucifer would not have had to hold movers at bay. All Dean Cooper's properties would have been held in probate upon his death - probate is the court-supervised, legal process of settling the estate of a deceased person - and can take several months to a year or more depending on complexity of the estate.
  • Lucifer was right about Dean Cooper being a terrible person. The fact Lucifer didn't have a good thing to say about him is telling in itself.
    • The man hired a professional tempter to test Eric's fiancée Christie, but got a surprise when she proved to love Eric and not the Cooper fortune.
