Pilot is the first episode of the first season of Lucifer. It aired on January 25, 2016, though an advanced screening was shown at San Diego Comic-Con.

Summary[]

After abandoning Hell, Lucifer Morningstar establishes himself in Los Angeles where he runs a nightclub, and indulges himself. When the murder of a friend gets him involved with LAPD Detective, Chloe Decker, Lucifer becomes intrigued with the fact he cannot influence her, but delighted with the punishment of criminals.

Plot[]

Lucifer is fed up with cosmic politics, and rather delighted with human existence. In his piano bar, Lux, the devil is greeted by an angel, Amenadiel who demands Lucifer return to Hell in order to restore universal balance; what happens to the damned when the devil leaves Hell? Lucifer is uninterested, not his problem any more.

Enter Delilah (AnnaLynne McCord), a pop star whose career was kick started by Lucifer. He shows her unexpected compassion, calling in his favor; “pull yourself together.” As they depart Lux, arm in arm, she promises to do as he asks when they are suddenly gunned down in a drive-by shooting. Lucifer is unscathed, of course, as an immortal, but Delilah is dead, and that bothers him, he wants answers as to why her life was ended.

He speaks to the investigating detective, Chloe Decker and wants to know what her “corrupt little organization” plans to do about the murder, because a resolution is very important to him. So much so that he interrupts the wedding of Jimmy Barnes the next day, he was Delilah's producer and former fiance, after all. From Jimmy he follows the trail to 2Vile, a rapper Delilah was seeing. 2Vile points him toward a therapist. When Chloe also arrives, one of 2Vile's hangers on out her as the former actress who starred in Hot Tub High School, one of Lucifer's favorites. He's delighted, and offers to work with her, offering her his information if she agrees.

En route to Linda Martin's office, Chloe is forced to make side trip to pick up her daughter, Trixie, from school, despite Lucifer's objection. Lucifer meets the child, and approves of her, despite disliking children in general. He also Meets Chloe's ex Dan, of whom he does not approve.

Psychiatrist Linda Martin notes that Lucifer is disturbed by Chloe's indifference to his charms even as she is badly affected by the same. She is induced to revealing Delilah's lover to Lucifer and Chloe, but both he and his wife alibi out. It isn't until they are a back at Lux, doing a little bonding that Maze points out the news report on Delilah's skyrocketing sales. Mazikeen, is unimpressed by Lucifer's fascination with humanity, and Chloe's resistance to his charm.

Chloe now knows who the killer is; Jimmy Barnes. When confronted, he shoots Chloe, sending the devil into a fit of rage. Jimmy shoots Lucifer as well, but to no effect, confusing the wounded Chloe. Lucifer is at her bedside when she recovers, and tells her he is glad she is not dead.
