Summary[]

Lucifer bails on Chloe when he is bored with her investigation into the murder of a warehouse security guard. However, when he discovers something was stolen during the crime that was very personal, he demands that Chloe let him back on the case.

Plot[]

Lucifer performs "Sinner Man" at Lux while a security guard at a warehouse is murdered.

The next morning, Chloe demands Trixie to come clean - who took the chocolate cake? Dan thinks it's funny and convinces Trixie to admit it. Trixie says Lucifer said it was okay to act on your desires. Dan is not impressed that Lucifer is having an influence over Trixie.

106 Chloe askes Trixie about cake

Chloe interrogates Trixie while Dan watches in amusement.

Lucifer has his first case as an official consultant for the police, but he is bored by the case, upsetting Chloe, but Lucifer doesn't understand why. He says that there's no reason to be respectful to rotting flesh; the deceased is either already in Hell or Heaven listening to Uriel's welcome speech, and leaves Chloe in the lurch at the warehouse crime scene. At Lux, however, Maze informs him that the shipping container stolen from that warehouse is his, "The Container." He returns to the crime scene with much more interest in the case.

106 Hank wants a clothing line

Hank admits he wants to own a clothing line.

Lucifer leads Chloe to a man selling snow cones who also runs the storage operation. He tells them what he knows after Lucifer assaults him, demanding answers. The man says that the biker club, Los Diablos, has eyes on the dock and would know who stole Lucifer's container. Lucifer and Chloe go to see Los Diablos at their HQ. Lucifer immediately takes center stage asking who took his property. Before Lucifer can get into a fight, however, Chloe takes down the first biker to throw a punch. The president of the club, Hank Cutter, invites Chloe and Lucifer into his office. Lucifer deduces that Hank likes being considered a criminal, but what else does he desire? Hank wants to go legit and start a clothing line. That was not what Chloe and Lucifer were expecting. Hank claims to know nothing about the murder.

Lucifer and Chloe stake him out, and while they wait, Chloe admits that she's upset that Lucifer is not being honest with her, and she wants to know what's in the missing container. She is worried that she would have to arrest him if he has contraband in his container. Lucifer considers, and reveals that his container holds Russian dolls. Chloe admits that she actually likes working with Lucifer, and he thinks that is cause for celebration. Although Lucifer thinks it's ludicrous to sit back and wait, Hank does exactly what Chloe expects, and leads them to a suspect. Unfortunately, when he confronts the murderer, Renny, he gets shot. While Chloe tends to him, Lucifer commandeers her car to chase after the shooter, who abandons his car and flees into a building where Lucifer follows him to the rooftop.

A furious Lucifer demands, "Give me what is mine." Renny said that he looked in the container, and he saw "them." Lucifer shows his Devil face, terrifying Renny who is already afraid to give up the person who hired him to steal Lucifer's container. He jumps off of the roof even as Lucifer tries to stop him, witnessed by the newly arrived Chloe. Once the scene is processed, Chloe informs Lucifer they found his container, and hands him bolt cutters. He realizes she wants to be there when he opens it and proceeds to do so. Inside is a chest full of Russian dolls. Chloe is satisfied that Lucifer told the truth. Once she leaves, however, Lucifer opens a secret compartment in the back of the container, but it's empty.

Dan, meanwhile, had gone to Lux and spoke with Mazikeen about seeing the club's books. Maze seems about to oblige and leads Dan to the back where she knocks him out. Dan wakes up naked at Chloe's. When he bribes Trixie into finding him some clothes, he returns to Lux and confronts Maze who says she was just trying to get Chloe and Dan back together. Dan suggests he could arrest Maze for assault, but she laughs, knowing that he won't tell anyone a tiny female bartender knocked him out. She then hands over the ledgers. Once he goes over them, he tells Chloe that Lux's books are clean.

106 Lucifer's wings

Lucifer's stolen wings.

Elsewhere, Linda is speaking to Amenadiel who has been feeding her information on Lucifer. He suggests that Linda should completely accept the 'metaphor' and treat Lucifer as if he is the Devil. Linda says that Lucifer is struggling, and he thinks other people see him as evil. Amenadiel says that he knows how Linda can get through to Lucifer, but Lucifer won't like it. When Lucifer returns to see Linda, she calls Lucifer 'Samael,' and says he used to be called the "Lightbringer." Lucifer is visibly uncomfortable, saying he does not go by that name any more. Linda says that God didn't cast him out of heaven because he was angry with Lucifer; God cast him out because he needed Lucifer to do the most difficult of jobs. Lucifer gets upset, saying that God made him a torturer. Linda says that he has to embrace all that he is. Lucifer says that he can't and punches a hole through her wall, and leaves a shaken Linda behind when he storms out.

At the penthouse, a preoccupied and angry Devil tells Mazikeen, "Someone's got them, Mazikeen. Someone's got my wings."

  • The events in Favorite Son take place between February 29th 2016 to March 1st 2016.
  • The symbol (𒀭) on the side of the shipping container that held Lucifer's wings is a Sumerian cuneiform. It can represent the word an ("sky" or "heaven"), the word dingir ("god"), or the god Anu (Sumerian "King of the Gods").
  • Inside Lucifer's container, there is a chest containing several Russian Matryoshka dolls. The writers intended the dolls to only be a placeholder, replaced by some other item when filmed, but then decided to keep the dolls because they "thought they were funny".[1]
  • Lucifer's lines during the "Samael" scene with Linda is from the comics (The Sandman Vol.4). However, in the comic, Lucifer was talking to Dream, although the exact words are used in the TV series.

    • Linda turns out to have been right in the series finale; that Lucifer was given the job because it was the toughest one and God trusted Lucifer with it.
