Plot[]

201 Lee Garner

Armed robber after being punished by Lucifer

The episode begins with a jewellery store robbery. Lucifer and Amenadiel are looking for their mother, using a list of everyone who had died at the time of their mother's escape from Hell. Lucifer uses his mojo on the masked robber, only to discover that it is not, in fact, their mother, but a man trying to get free of his debts.

In Lucifer's therapy session, he confides in Linda that he thinks his mother is coming to kill him. He explains how his parents met, fell in love, and then created the universe, "In human terms, once upon a time, a boy met a girl, and they fell in love. They had sex. The only trouble was, they were celestial beings, so that moment created the universe.... they became Mum and Dad. They had a whole litter of kids, including yours truly, and they built a house. They called it Heaven. They were happy. Dad was... well, Dad, and Mum... Well, Mum was rather lovely in the beginning.  But things change, don't they? Dad started going into the garage and tinkering with a little project he called humanity. Mum grew cold... distant. And pretty soon, they were both neglecting their family." Lucifer then acted out and was banished to Hell, and a few thousand years later, the Goddess was sent to Hell as well.

Chloe and Lucifer then arrive on a studio set for their latest crime: a woman named Jillian has been killed, and had rebar, similar to devil horns, stabbed in to her head. Ella reveals the metal bars were not the cause of death which was, in fact, strangulation. Lucifer feels that his mother is responsible for the murder, and is sending a message. Dan arrives on the scene and tells Chloe the department wants to down play the incidents of the last season, so he has been reinstated but demoted. Lucifer meets Ella, a new forensic analyst, and he is curious as to her non-reaction at his name, but she tell him that she thinks the Devil has a bad rap, "I mean, what did he really do that was so bad? What, rebel against his dad? Ask some naked lady if she wanted an apple?" Lucifer is delighted, but when he uses the first person to talk about the Devil, Ella decides that Lucifer is a method actor.

Lucifer and Chloe head to Jillian's house and talk to her landlord about the star Amy Dodd's drug addiction. Chloe discovers a large stack of cash in Jillian's home.

201 Lucifer and Amenadiel

Amenadiel and Lucifer in Lux.

Lucifer finds Amenadiel brooding in Lux. Amenadiel wonders whether Maze helped Goddess escape from Hell. Lucifer reveals that he thinks he has found Mum on a case, and also happily reports that finally the detective is going to believe him about who he is, she has a swab of his blood from the incident with Malcolm, and she plans on testing it. Lucifer toasts that, "Everything's coming up Lucifer." Amenadiel worries what will happen if celestial blood ends up in the police database, and decides to prevent that from happening.

Lucifer attempts to confront Amy, whom he believes is actually his mother, until she tries to jump him, "Good Lord, that's... Wait! You're not who I thought you were, are you? I hope....Well, then this truly is the most evil thing that's ever happened to me!" Chloe then enters and the situation calms down. Amy reveals Jillian was her sober companion, someone who is paid to keep her sober, and they were fighting because Amy did not want to be treated like a child, and that Jillian tried to take her new supply away. Amy gives Chloe the drugs and the number of her dealer.

Amenadiel enters the police station and slows time, but while looking through Chloe's desk time suddenly resumes, and Amenadiel leaves, very confused as to how that happened.

In another therapy session Lucifer blames other people for current events. Linda questions if Lucifer is using their sessions as an excuse to misinterpret what she says for his own gain, and if the sessions were actually helping or making things worse.

Chloe enters Lux to find Amenadiel who tries to distract Chloe from researching his brother, he shoots himself, then shows her he is wearing a bulletproof vest and blood packs. He claims that Lucifer was wearing this when he and Chloe confronted Malcolm, and that everything he does is a performance. He also says that Lucifer's mojo is only neuro-linguistic programming. Amenadiel says this is all because they had a difficult childhood, and Lucifer compensated by creating his devilish persona.

Later, Lucifer and Chloe sit in on an AA meeting where they tracked the phone of the dealer. Lucifer is bored, so gets up to get the dealer to come up, but then is asked about his lowest point. Lucifer says that his lowest point is when his mother abandoned him, and so he in turn abandoned her, and then paused, then questioned what she would say to justify what she did. Chloe told him she thought the meeting was impressive, but he misses her point. After the meeting the dealer comes up to the them, looking to make a sale, and Chloe questions him. He tells Chloe he didn't kill Jillian, but it could be Amy's previous dealer who was furious at losing a customer.

201 promo Lucifer Maze

Maze with Lucifer

Lucifer is spending the evening overseeing Lux, when Amy's boyfriend attempts to ambush Lucifer with a knife, Maze appears as Lucifer calmly watches, and she beats the "dick nozzle boyfriend" down, "Oh, there you are Maze, I missed you." Maze, it turns out, actually tortured Lucifer's mother in Hell, although she could never break her. Maze tells Lucifer she was with a friend who is helping her figure out where she fits in, while Lucifer wants to know if she is helping his mum. The boyfriend, tied up and gagged, is allowed to speak and reveals to Lucifer that Amy had an dealer prior to the one Chloe questioned, but Jillian cut him off and the dealer was very angry. He says the dealer went by Bobby B.

Chloe begins to investigate doctors who have had their license revoked but Lucifer discovers a picture of Jillian's landlord, the set nurse, wearing a name tag, Roberta, and leaves Chloe to continue her line of inquery.

In Ella's lab, Chloe asks Ella if she really believes in God, if angels or the Devil really exist, or if its all just metaphor. Ella says maybe, "doubt was really important. Right? I mean, if you don't question something, then what's the point of believing it.... I doubt so that I can believe." Ella then clicks on the problem of the metal rods in the victim's head, and realizes they are contaminated with fertilizer found on lawn tools and ornaments, leading Chloe to make the connection to the lawn flamingos decorating Roberta's garden.

Lucifer confronts Roberta about killing Jillian. Roberta attacks Lucifer who is actually hurt by her strike, startling him, "How is this possi...?  All right. Okay. Can we just... have a time-out, please?  Is this a supernatural fire poker? How is this possible?" Chloe then begins knocking on the door and Lucifer realizes why he is vulnerable, as Roberta tries to strangle him with a fire poker. A moment before she is able to choke out Lucifer, Chloe enters and tasers her. Lucifer gets to his feet, saying he nearly had her, then pulls the trigger on the taser sending another jolt into Roberta to Chloe's exasperation.

Back at Linda's office, Lucifer admits she was right, and that he was placing blame on other people, "I've been blaming everybody else for the situation I'm in. And the fact of the matter is that...I chose to do nothing when my mother was cast out. To never ask her why she did what she did. So that's on me." But he tells Linda if mum is not coming to kill him, he does not know what she is going to do - which terrifies him.
