Et Tu, Doctor? is the eighth episode of the first season of Lucifer. It aired on March 14, 2016.

Summary[]

When a therapist is murdered, Lucifer and Chloe enlist the help of Dr. Linda to search his files for possible suspects. Meanwhile, Malcolm confronts Chloe about the night he was shot, and Lucifer experiences his first bout of jealousy.

Plot[]

Having burned his wings in the previous episode, the Lord of Hell has the unprecedented opportunity to reinvent himself. With a glitzy party underway at Lux, to celebrate his "re-birthday", Chloe and Dan arrive and bring a gift "Whiskey with a pickle juice chaser. It's our station's birthday tradition." They share a toast with Lucifer, but then leave to attend Malcolm Graham's welcome back party.

At the party, Malcolm, in a wheelchair pushed by Anthony Paolucci, confronts Chloe and Dan. At first, it appears he's giving her grief while everyone else looks on, then says he's just messing with them. He can even stand up with some difficulty. Paolucci comments how Heaven doesn't want him and Hell couldn't keep him, and Malcolm says, "You've got no idea" and winks at the pair.

Lucifer attends his next session with Linda with some trepidation, having punched a hole in her wall last time, but Linda assures him that their last session was a breakthrough, "You're finally getting in touch with your emotions. Letting your barriers down." Lucifer asks her to put them back up, saying his emotions are inconvenient. When Linda probes, it appears he is jealous of the time Chloe spends with Dan. When he asks if she can correct Chloe's "Douche fixation," Linda tells him that's not how it works, much to his disgust.

He is next seen arriving at an office to investigate a therapist's murder. Dr. Bernie Shaw, "The Cheater Therapist." Chloe suggests he may have attracted enemies as he encouraged people to cheat to save their relationships. Lucifer declares the case interesting. Lucifer briefly talks to the widow, doing an end run around Dr Jonathan Medina, whom he calls Tissue Lad, and compliments her late husband's work as bang on; "Desire shouldn't be contained... it's unnatural. Your husband recognized that." Lucifer is excited at the prospect of reading his patient files but is told that they are required to have a psychologist, and when he suggests Linda, Chloe says it needs to be court-approved. Lucifer promptly goes out and seduces a judge to achieve that end.

Chloe and Lucifer argue about Linda's involvement, and he points out that "Dr. Martin is excellent. She trained at Stanford, she lectures at USC, she's got stacks of awards...." When Chloe asks why he is her fanboy, he reveals he is her client, startling Chloe who calls him the least reflective person she knows. Linda then tells them them about a patient named Richard Kester who sent Dr. Shaw a death threat, but otherwise, his patients seem happy with him. They set off to find Kester and during a discussion, Chloe tells Lucifer she and Dan separated because he focused too much on his job, but lately he's making time for her and Trixie. Linda then calls to warn that Kester may be a danger to himself, and Chloe finds him standing on a building ledge, where he is joined by Lucifer after a moment. Lucifer wants Kester to help him understand jealousy, how could he be so jealous as to murder his therapist, but Kester says he didn't kill Shaw and says he was feeling lost instead of jealous. Lucifer is confounded, "your life sounds incredibly bleak. Ironically, it seems there's nowhere to go but up." That is enough to convince Kester not to kill himself. He then reveals he knows Shaw's wife by the nick name, Sandy, and he saw her two days previously when Chloe through she's in Phoenix.

Meanwhile, Linda goes to Lux, where she meets Maze who is rude and dismissive. Linda counters with, "I find people who are rude usually feel powerless in their own lives. Terrified of not being in control. But that's not you, I'm sure." Maze smiles and says she likes Linda. Chloe and Lucifer then arrive, and between them they deduce Sandy Shaw may have been stalking one of her husband's female patients. Dan calls and Chloe has to leave, much to Lucifer's irritation.

At her place, Chloe discovers Malcolm waiting for her. He says he's also looking into the Palmetto case and he was buying information from Nikolas Aoudi and he thinks a cop shot both of them. Chloe's still doesn't trust him. He reports that he is dropping the case and suggests she does as well because whoever did it is willing to kill cops.

She then joins Lucifer and Linda after getting a call that Sandy is sitting in a parking garage. When they arrive they find Sandy with several bags of horse manure in her car that she was going to throw on the patient that was sleeping with her husband. She had found out about the affair from Dr. Medina, her husband's colleague. Lucifer decides to crash Dr. Shaw's patient support group looking for support after he feels Linda had taken sides with Chloe in dissecting their relationship, "Getting double-teamed is usually much more fun than this." Meanwhile, Linda and Chloe discuss Lucifer and Linda's therapy work, and Linda admits she is sleeping with Lucifer, but that should change. Chloe notes that it is unusual that the cheater therapist was so bad at cheating. He should have at least told his colleague to have a better alibi. Chloe then realizes that it placed Dr. Medina in a role where he could let Sandy know her husband was cheating. And he had been very attentively comforting her at the beginning of the case.

Lucifer, meanwhile, in the support group is relating his trouble with Chloe and Linda until Dr. Medina stops him and says that the meeting isn't about him. Lucifer thinks about it then agrees, asking Dr. Medina what he desires. When he says Sandy, Lucifer recognizes him as Tissue Lad. Dr. Medina shoves Lucifer against the wall and holds a knife to his throat confessing that he set everything up for her to find out, but no matter what he did Sandy still loved Dr. Shaw. Lucifer reflects on this and concludes he was right, he wasn't jealous. Chloe shows up to arrest Dr. Medina, flipping him on to the ground, where he bites her, so she punches him and cuffs him.

Later, Chloe has a concern about Palmetto and how the other shooter knew where Malcolm was. Chloe and Lucifer go to the cop bar, where they discover Paulucci dead.

The following day Lucifer goes to see Linda, and offers to pay her with sex a per their arrangement, but Linda has decided to end the sexual relationship and have a professional relationship with her client. Lucifer asks Linda about the new doctor next door, Dr Canaan, describing Amenadiel. Linda says that sounds like Dr Canaan..

At Chloe's place, she thanks Dan for everything and they kiss. He then leaves to meet Malcolm; he congratulates him on finding the killer. It is revealed that Malcolm shot Paolucci and faked the suicide note, and that it was Dan who shot Malcolm at Palmetto to protect Chloe. Malcolm reveals that he plans to blackmail Dan with this.

Back at Lux, Lucifer tells Maze he knows she betrayed him. He is angry and tells her, "you betrayed me, Maze. And not for my own good, you did it for yourself. Who is this human world really rubbing off on, eh? Me or you.... Don't want to hear it, 'cause you and me, we're done."
